The Nigerian Institute of Advanced Legal Studies now has a new Director-General. He is PROFESSOR MUHAMMED TAWFIQ LADAN.

The appointment, which was conveyed by Boss Mustcpha, Secretary to the Government of the Federation, stated 'that. President Muhammadu Buhari approved Professor Muhammed Ladan's appointment as Director-General with effect from 9th September, 2019.

Professor Muhammed Ladan is a renowned Professor of Law with 32years (1987-2019) versatile experience in teaching research, publications, mentorship and supervision at the Faculty of Law, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria. He is the immediate past Director, Legislative Support Services at the National Institute of Legislative and Democratic Studies of the National Assembly, Abuja. He has in the last 21 years represented Nigeria as a Human Rights Expert in the defence of Nigeria’s periodic Country Reports at the United Nations Headquarters in New York and Geneva as well as at the UNESCO Headquarters in Paris, France; the African Human Rights Commission in the Gambia and at the African Union (AU) in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. He has also consulted widely for United Nations Agencies and ECOWAS Commission in Nigeria.

Professor Ladan enjoys the membership of Nigerian Council for Legal Education: World Jurist Association, Washington DC; IUCN Academy of and Commission on Environmental Law; a Hubert Humphrey Fellow, USA as well as Member, Nigerian Society of International Law, among several others.

Professor M.T. Ladan is currently the Deputy Chair, National Committee on the Implementation of International Humanitarian Law Treaties (IHL) and the National Committee on the Justice Sector Reform Implementation Committee from 2011 to date.

He takes over from Professor Paul Idornigie, SAN, who acted briefly as the Director-General of the Institute from May, 2019 following the expiration of the tenure of the immediate past Director-General, Professor Adedeji Adekunle, SAN.

The new Director-General, who was born on 24th March, 1960 hails from Kano. He is happily married and blessed with children.
