ABOUT NIALS - The Nigerian Institute of Advanced Legal Studies (NIALS) was established in March 1979, as Nigeria’s apex institution for research and advanced studies in law. The Institute is also accredited to offer Mandatory Continuing Legal Education for Lawyers. In fulfilment of its mandate, it organises national and international seminars, symposia, conferences, workshops and lectures on any branch of law and related subjects.

ABOUT THE COURSE - Information Technology has in recent years, gained widespread recognition and approval among judges, lawyers and the general public. Information Technology Law provides the legal and regulatory framework for collecting, storing and disseminating electronic information in the global market place. This Training course seeks to provide Participants the ability to structure Information Technology transactions in a way that would maximize their client’s economic benefit while ensuring compliance with regulations.

The course seeks to provide a rare opportunity to acquire knowledge and understanding of the law and the regulation of information technology. The Course aims to:

  •  Provide an understanding on how these regulations operate across jurisdictions (domestic, regional and international).
  • Create awareness on the use of Information Technology and the law resources and its efficient management in both private and public sector.
  • Examine principles and best practices in the exploitation and management of ICT and the law
  • At the end of the training participants should emerge with an understanding of Information  Technology  not just in its legal but also its social, ethical, cultural and commercial contexts

Fundamentals of Information Technology Law; Regulatory Framework for E-governance; Electronic Case Management Systems (For Lawyers and Courts); The use of ICT in crime scene management, Cyber rights (Expression, Privacy and Property), Infringement and Enforcement of Laws on the Internet; Practical Guides in Drafting and Negotiating Software Licensing and Software Development Agreements; Intellectual Property Rights in the Online Environment and Digital Rights Protection/Management; ICT Litigation, Digital Evidence and Computer Forensics; Addressing Jurisdictional and Regulatory Issues in Internet Transactions.
